Senior UI/UX Designer

This is a remote work position, though candidates will ideally be based in the Washington, DC Metro area for occasional onsite meetings with clients.

Spire is a full-service communications firm supporting innovative programs in government, technology, healthcare, and science. We seek a senior UI/UX designer to support a federal health IT client working on its website (HealthIT.gov).

Must have experience supporting large website projects under tight deadlines, preferably in a federal agency environment.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or long-term resident with a valid Green Card.

What You’ll Do

  • Produce high-quality design solutions through flow diagrams, wireframes, graphics, storyboards, and site maps using modern UI/UX best practices.
  • Provide guidance on the implementation of UX research techniques.
  • Recommend improvements to user flow and address website pain points.
  • Maintain website design system(s) and library of web icons, graphics, source files, and template files.
  • Support data visualization tool and dashboard design improvements.
  • Ensure brand compliance.
  • Work with developers to ensure pixel perfect implementation of the UI design.
  • Work with Agile mindset and methods.
  • Be organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment on tight deadlines.
  • Conduct usability testing, user behavior analysis, and in-person or virtual focus groups

What You’ll Bring to Spire

  • Proficient in U.S. Web Design Standards (USWDS) design principles, templates, and components
  • Understanding of mobile responsiveness across devices, platforms, and browsers
  • Understanding of the user testing process and how to apply data to UI/UX decisions
  • Understanding of content management platform impacts on UI/UX
  • Proficient in tools such as Adobe Suite, Figma, Sketch, Invision, BrowserStack, and Google Analytics
  • 10 years of experience in website design with a minimum of 5 years of working on large-scale (preferably federal) web projects
  • Understanding of inclusive UI/UX practices and 508 Accessibility
  • Portfolio of recent or representative work
