Senior Web Content Director – Health IT

Hybrid work opportunity with onsite support in Washington, DC, roughly once a month.

Spire is a full-service communications firm supporting innovative programs in government, technology, healthcare, and science. We seek a senior web content director to support the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. Candidate must have demonstrated experience working on large-scale websites, as well as deep subject matter knowledge and experience in a technology field, preferably health IT.

The senior content director will lead all aspects of content strategy in support of a holistic redesign of the HealthIT.gov website and HealthIT Buzz blog, as well as ONC’s EHR Reporting Program platform. This role will incorporate best practices in content governance, usability and accessibility, search engine optimization, content management, and content operations to ensure the website achieves the agency’s communication goals and website KPIs.

The senior web content director will define and manage processes for content inventory and audit, editing, review and approvals, and publishing – employing project management tools to track and report on workload and throughput. The role will be responsible for ensuring that all content created for ONC web properties consistently reflects the agency’s brand voice and style.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a small team of content strategists/writers to provide all aspects of content strategy, planning, and execution for the redesign project, including content audit, content migration plan, governance, road mapping, and voice/tone/style guidelines
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders and Spire designers and developers to create the information architecture for ONC’s primary website and microsite
  • Collaborate with design team to ensure alignment between content, UX, and visuals
  • Develop and manage content governance structure for agency websites
  • Define meaningful content metrics and KPIs to measure progress toward targets
  • Work with agency subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify, define, and refine topics and manage the content creation, editing, and approval process
  • Create and manage an editorial calendar to drive production of content
  • Understand, follow, and communicate best practices in digital writing
  • Write, proofread, restructure, and edit content focused on health IT policy, standards, and practices and their impact on the regulated community
  • Identify opportunities to creatively enhance article formats, headlines, and other content elements for greater readability, engagement, and impact

What You’ll Bring to Spire

  • 10+ years of experience writing and managing web content
  • Superior ability to develop and maintain a strong working relationship with clients, SMEs, web designers, and developers
  • Demonstrated experience providing content strategy, management, and execution support for large-scale website redesign projects
  • Demonstrated experience with information architecture, digital taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of best practices in digital content
  • Expertise in content SEO
  • Experience with content management systems, preferably Drupal and WordPress
  • Working knowledge of Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with federal plain language requirements
