Health IT Communications Director Supporting CMS

The position is hybrid, with occasional onsite work at the client site in Washington, DC (roughly twice per month).

Spire is a full-service communications firm supporting innovative programs in government, technology, healthcare, and science. We seek a full-time, highly skilled senior communications professional specializing in communications and media relations with experience in health technology and health IT interoperability. You will be supporting health IT communications for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as a part of the Spire team. A minimum of 10 years’ experience is required to apply.

For this role, you will manage public affairs and media relations for one of Spire’s federal health clients focused on using data and informatics to improve healthcare.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead proactive and reactive media relations strategies
  • Work closely with local, national, and global news media
  • Write, edit, and share stories to engage key audiences
  • Manage significant stakeholder engagement efforts
  • Write content for social media and web
  • Create messaging and positioning

What You’ll Bring to Spire

  • 10+ years of communications experience
  • Background in health IT
  • Ability to manage large accounts independently with minimal supervision
  • Foundational knowledge with social media for LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Expertise in media relations, crisis communications, and positioning
