Scientific Multimedia Producer / Designer

Spire Communications is hiring a full-time multimedia producer/designer with demonstrated expertise in video production, post-production, and multimedia storytelling to support communications for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). This role plans, produces, and directs video content for NSF, managing productions from concept development through final delivery across live events, interviews, web, social media, and other digital platforms. The ideal candidate combines technical production expertise with creative storytelling skills to translate complex scientific and technical topics into engaging, accessible, and effective multimedia content.

This position is hybrid, with the potential to be fully onsite, based at the client site in Alexandria, VA. Occasional travel may be required. The opportunity is contingent upon contract award.

Salary range: $110,000-$140,000

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, coordinate, produce, and direct live and recorded video productions at NSF headquarters and on location.
  • Coordinate production logistics, including scheduling, location preparation, equipment setup, and collaboration with NSF staff and subject matter experts.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot studio and field production environments, including cameras, lighting, audio systems, teleprompters, green screen setups, and livestream equipment.
  • Direct on-camera participants, including non-professional talent, researchers, executives, and subject matter experts.
  • Develop treatments, outlines, story concepts, and scripts for video productions, including interviews, documentaries, educational content, social media videos, and short-form science storytelling.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into compelling narratives appropriate for diverse audiences, including students, educators, researchers, policymakers, and the general public.
  • Collaborate with communications, scientific, and technical teams to develop content that effectively communicates complex topics to diverse audiences.
  • Edit video content using Adobe Premiere Pro, ranging from interviews and short-form content to complex, multi-layered productions.
  • Create graphics, artwork, and motion elements using Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and related tools.
  • Prepare, manage, and distribute video assets, including metadata, captions, accessibility requirements, review, and clearance workflows.
  • Maintain organized production files, project assets, and media archives.
  • Ensure video deliverables meet accessibility requirements, including coordination of captions, transcripts, audio quality, and accessible formatting for distribution across NSF platforms.

What You’ll Bring to Spire

  • 6+ years of experience in video production, editing, and post-production.
  • Expert proficiency/mastery with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and other creative production tools.
  • Experience directing non-professional talent and coordinating production crews.
  • Experience producing video content for digital, broadcast, or government communications.
  • Experience managing video workflows, including editing, file preparation, metadata, and distribution.

Major Pluses

  • Federal or federally funded research experience.
  • Expertise supporting interactive or immersive virtual reality experiences (e.g., Oculus 360° video, CGI VR experiences, Unity/Unreal, interactive VR development).
