Web Developer (Drupal, ServiceNow, SharePoint)

Spire Communications is hiring a full-time web developer with demonstrated Drupal, ServiceNow, and SharePoint environments expertise to support communications for the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). This role will support NSF’s web operations by building and maintaining webpages and digital content within the agency’s content management environments. The developer will demonstrate strong technical command of web development fundamentals and hands-on experience delivering compliant, user-centered pages.

Spire Communications is a woman-owned strategic communications and creative firm based in Alexandria, VA that supports science, technology, and engineering organizations within the government and private sectors.

This position is hybrid, with the potential to be fully onsite, based at the client site in Alexandria, VA. The opportunity is contingent upon contract award.

Salary range: $120,000 – $160,000

What You’ll Do

  • Create and update webpages and content to ensure accuracy, functionality, and adherence to current design standards.
  • Develop pixel perfect webpage templates and components conforming to web development best practices, Section 508/WCAG, and federal plain-language requirements.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate visual concepts into scalable, reusable components within Drupal, ServiceNow, and SharePoint environments.
  • Support NSF website maintenance, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and platform stability.
  • Use browser developer tools/console to inspect, debug, and troubleshoot webpage issues.
  • Apply CSS styling and print-friendly formatting to ensure pages render cleanly across screen and print output.
  • Respond to publishing and editing requests using ServiceNow Employee Center and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Provide customer support to NSF staff and track requests within the ticketing system.
  • Advise NSF staff on technical implementation considerations, web standards, accessibility requirements, and platform capabilities.

What You’ll Bring to Spire

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in web development.
  • Experience working in Drupal, ServiceNow, and SharePoint environments.
  • At least five years working within a Drupal environment.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Working proficiency with AI-assisted development tools to improve coding efficiency, troubleshooting, and productivity.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining large-scale, enterprise-level websites, not limited to small-scale or startup projects.

Major Pluses

  • Expertise supporting interactive or immersive virtual reality experiences (e.g., Oculus 360° video, CGI VR experiences, Unity/Unreal, interactive VR development).
  • Federal or federally funded research experience.
